iPhone 5 and how it should be...

Unknown artist for this home screen. Many good artist's are making there version of what the Lock Screen should look like.I know that there is a lot of speculation on how the iPhone OS (iOS) should work. But I have a request that comes from the use of a Blackberry for several years. Even though I really don't like using a Blackberry (which was my only choice for some time at work) for a smartphone, there are some items that makes it very interesting and useful. I believe that a smartphone should be smart and very quick to reference your information. So my only request would be to be able to see the most important things for YOUR day right from the lock screen without doing any other type of action than pulling it out of the holster and looking at it. No swiping, No expanding of a panel and No having to touch an app to get info out of the app.

So with the Blackberry I only have to pull it out of the holster and look at the screen to see how my day is going. I can see the actual temperature out side and see if i have any new emails or phone calls that i missed. Or if they left me a message. Without doing anything but looking at the screen. Nothing more.

Now that being said, I don't want a Blackberry. I want an iPhone. I don't want Apple to copy Android. I'm just saying that if there is one thing that Apple could do on the next version of iOS that would make people happy, would be to make the OS Smart in the fact that it tells you up to date info without having to refresh the screen or having to even touch the screen. As pulling the phone out of the holster would activate the magnet sensor and turn on the screen. Showing you all the info you need for the moment.

This is my request to Apple as a person that is still running an iPod Touch 1st Generation. It could be GREAT!!! Rock on Apple!

One man's journey...

Brent Scoles home after the May 22, 2011 Tornado in Joplin, MO.This week has been a very trying week. With all the pain and suffering that this storm has caused, Love and Compassion have prevailed.

My buddy, Brent Scoles, lost his home in Sunday's Tornado as he was only blocks from the touchdown just north of St. Johns Hospital. As the weather started getting bad during the early evening he didn't think much about an EF5 hitting Joplin. We've had more than our share of siren alerts in years past. So when this siren sounded we're doing our normal thing. Checking outside, looking to the sky and then going back to our normal routine. Of course with an ear to the outside for another siren.

This night was different for sure. With glass braking, Brent called for his little kitty "Gracie" to come to him as he was running to get into his normal hiding spot of his bedroom closet. She never came to him. So as he pulled the door shut at the last minute he new this was the real thing. It took all he could do to keep the door shut. "The sound was horrific and deafening" Brent said. Brent knew that things were bad when he saw light coming through the roof of the closet. Rain and debris was falling on him as he emerged out of his hiding spot in an attempt to figure out what exactly happened to his life.

Calling for his Kitty so far has not been successful. We believe she is still alive but so scared that her world has been turned upside down, that she is staying hidden.

With only 6 days behind him, Brent has found a place to stay, pulled out some of his things from the rubble and is trying to get back to some sort of normalcy. Although it will never be the same, he is thankful that he's alive and that he has not lost any friends.

Working with the Web...

For the past couple days I've tried to setup my Google Apps account to change over my appliedi.net account. You knew that i was playing around with Squarespace and i think it's a pretty neat cms. Mainly it's a good basic overall place to do what "I" need for a site.

I knew that my hosting was coming up and i wanted to move it. So i started playing around with the Google account i set up some time ago for the email since Squarespace doesn't support email. Bummer. That Google is so fickle or I'm getting old. It reminds me of using the TAB where everything was buried in sub menus and pages that you can't find what your needing. I to the point of needing a wig as I've pulled my hair out.  :-P  Not really but close. I've got a couple months to figure it out so I started early. I wish it was as easy as the regular Gmail account.

Seems when i started doing websites that i understood the redirecting of things like email but dabble with this Google mess makes me feel wonky at the least.

Now Network Solutions is where i registered by domain back in 99' and i just renewed it for another 5 years. I went to redirect the MX records with Google's address and they (NS) wouldn't let you do this unless you changed your DNS routing to their hosting. That's what Leo always talks about. Once I clicked to go into the area to change the MX record it reset the DNS to their site which made my site unavailable. Gurrrr!

I changed the MX records to Google and went back out and changed the DNS address. After a couple hours my site was back up. Funny that it didn't take 2 mins. for the DNS to change the first time but hours to switch back.

At this point I went to setup my email to see if i would get email. At this point the Google Apps site is setup with my email, the MX is pointing to Google and i found out how to setup Thunderbird for Google Apps. I get email at that address but it seems to be coming in through appliedi.net. So I'm not sure how that's happening.

Thus, my frustration has got the best of me for a couple days. I'm putting this on hold because my head is missing something. It sucks to get old with this stuff.

The Launch of iPad 2

As i sit back here at the house looking at the Keynote speach from Apples event today, I've been somewhat excited and yet disapointed. Almost like they were holding something back. They know there is more wow bang in the pipe line. I'm still holding out for an iPhone and hope the iPhone 5 will be the ticket to rock my tech addication.
